Restoring Dignity with Carts for Hearts, One Cart at a Time.

The impact on businesses in San Antonio from shopping cart loss due to use by homeless individuals includes significant replacement costs for stolen property and potential exposure to city fines if local ordinances are not met.

Business Costs

Replacement Costs: Shopping carts are expensive, typically costing between $100 and $500 each. Businesses in San Antonio, like retailers nationwide, face millions of dollars in annual losses from the damage, misuse, and disappearance of carts.

Operational Disruption: A lack of available shopping carts can disrupt normal business operations and negatively impact customer experience, potentially leading to lost sales and decreased customer retention.

Security Investments: In response, some businesses are forced to invest in preventative measures, such as enhanced surveillance or wheel-locking mechanisms that prevent carts from leaving the premises, adding to overhead costs.

Retrieval Expenses: Businesses may need to hire third-party services or dedicate staff time to retrieve abandoned carts from surrounding areas.

We kindly invite you to support our mission with a donation of any amount.

3

Please inform us if you know someone experiencing homelessness who could benefit from our carts program.

4

By working together, we can offer dignity and compassion to those in need, helping them find a path to self-sufficiency.

5

Our outreach team is dedicated to informing homeless individuals about the assistance and programs available to them, including transportation services.

6

We will be providing individuals with a 2-in-1 cart that not only serves as a shopping cart but also converts into a bed, allowing them to sleep off the ground.

7

This initiative will assist businesses in avoiding city fines related to shopping carts and help them save money by reducing the need for locking mechanisms.

8

This initiative will benefit the environment by addressing capacity issues caused by shopping carts, which can take between 50 to 1,000 years to decompose in landfills.

9

This initiative will also prevent the city from incurring expenses related to the cleanup of abandoned carts in public spaces and waterways, costs that are often ultimately borne by taxpayers.

10

Addressing the issue of abandoned shopping carts on streets enhances safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, alleviating their concerns.

11

We are dedicated to preserving San Antonio’s beauty and cleanliness, ensuring a welcoming environment for the families who enjoy visiting our city.

12

We will gather feedback on individuals to monitor their progress in receiving assistance, aiming to inspire and support them in achieving their goals

The Star Heart program is an upcoming initiative designed to support homeless individuals from the initial intake process to achieving self-sufficiency. Participants will be held accountable and encouraged to engage actively throughout the program. As they progress, individuals can earn various forms of assistance, including temporary wireless phones, clothing, food, and job placement services. Housing will be provided at our facility during their enrollment. We greatly appreciate any donations to support this important work
